The Museum is involved in a number of research projects including the Archaeological Interpretation of an Anglo-Boer War fortification and Late Iron Age settlements in the area. During 2007 a CRM (Cultural Resources Management) survey by the Lydenburg Museum, identified a large number of LIA (Late Iron Age)stone-walled settlements in Lydenburg. These were then recorded. This area was earmarked for residential property development by the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality.
